It’s been an incredibly emotional week for me. I’ll bet it has been for you too Reader, especially if you live in the United States. I spent Monday and Tuesday in the Studio recording the AudioBook of my new book KNOWN: seeing yourself when the world is watching. KNOWN is about the practice of becoming visible. Coming into focus, especially during times of transition, is an inner path of inquiry, something many creatives struggle with because the metrics of being truly Known have nothing to do with social proof, executive presence, or being on brand and you know I like I good brand. The book also talks about leadership, women’s leadership in particular because women lead differently. The fact that this book is arriving into the world when I now live in a state where a woman is Governor for the first time is not lost on me. Especially because it’s a State that was not on my radar for living as little as five years ago. But when you set a vision for yourself, you can expect change, often profound change. Vision is my favorite part of Visibility Practice because it offers you the ability to imagine and to see where you are going, both personally and professionally. Among the creative entrepreneurs I’ve worked with, the two worlds at work and at home are intertwined. No separation exists because life itself is an act of creation. Clear vision promotes growth internally and externally. It’s why creative entrepreneurs with clear vision keep moving even when others get stuck. What if the creative ideas you have for your business, or your life, the ones you’re ignoring are the ones that have the solutions you need right now? Because they do. Consider this note your reminder that those ideas come with intelligence programmed into them like the oak tree inside the acorn. Change is always unfamiliar but it doesn’t have to be hard. If you need help navigating it, let’s talk. P.S. You can PRE-ORDER KNOWN or the audio book version HERE. I would love it if you did. |
Use your voice. Blow sh*t up. A newsletter about creativity, visibility and the way women lead.
The theme during our Brand Maintenance call this morning quickly moved to team building. One client was onboarding an Architect and a Senior, and another was determining what roles would build her best team while she's serving two coasts. The org chart, renumeration, duties and culture are all systems that, if you get them right, plug into a larger vision. That big vision is something that matters not only to you but to that team member who is joining your firm. You might want a doer, but...
Many of us, especially those of the creative persuasion, struggle with something that can undermine the growth of our business: focus. Research has also shown that multitasking creates bottlenecks in the brain. People who multi-task are pre-disposed to error. They actually take longer to get things done than those who tackle one thing at a time. That's because multitasking wasn't designed with humans in mind. The concept was originated by computer engineers and refers to the ability of a...
The only way to the other side is through. I take that back. You can jump over the problem, pivot around it, ignore it entirely and for a while that works. You get busy enough that you don't have to look at it. You land a good project and it falls back. You hire someone and it shifts just enough to feel manageable. But it comes back. It always comes back. Because it isn't the problem that’s the problem. It’s a pattern that you’ve you built, one reasonable workaround at a time. What you’re...
